LOUVERED SHUTTERS

Louvered shutters are a classic style that fit most any home. They add architectural interest and curb appeal, providing clean lines and a beautiful look that brings your home to a higher level. Louvered shutters can be installed on Colonial and Southern style homes for a historically accurate look or installed on Georgian and Greek Revival homes to complement formal symmetrical designs.

Articulating Louver Shutters

Articulating louver shutters offer a historical accuracy that hearken to a time before air conditioning where air flow, sunlight exposure, and protection from the elements was the key to comfort.

Fixed Louver Shutters

Fixed louver shutters feature angled slats that allow light and airflow that look beautiful at all times while offering protection from extreme weather when closed.

Size Of Louvers

For panels under 24 in wide, our "standard" louver size is 1 3/4 in high by 3/8 in thick.

For panels wider than 24 in, we normally build "large" louvers that are 2 3/8 in high by 1/2 in thick.

If you would like large louvers in a frame that is under 24 in width, just ask!

Arch Top to Match Windows

For round-top windows, Aegis Shutters are designed to mirror the arched shape at the top while maintaining full coverage for a custom fit. The louvers within the arched portion can be arranged horizontally or in a fan pattern. This custom fit preserves both the functional and aesthetic purposes of exterior shutters while honoring the architectural elegance of arched windows.

The shutter frame serves both structural and design purposes, mirroring key architectural elements of the house. The frame profiles can echo patterns found in window casings, columns, or other architectural elements creating visual harmony across the building's elements.

Tilt Rods

A shutter tilt rod is a vertical bar mounted on the back of articulating louvered shutters that connects and controls all louvers simultaneously. When the rod is moved up or down, it rotates the attached louvers fastened to each slat. The tilt rod movement allows for precise adjustment of light, airflow, and privacy by positioning the louvers at any angle from fully open to completely closed. Aegis Shutters has developed a unique tilt rod system that is sturdier than then "standard" tilt for years of operation.

A faux tilt rod can be added to fixed louver shutters for an added design look and overall shutter strength.

Rabbeting

Rabbeting shutters involves cutting complementary grooves along the meeting edges so they overlap when closed. The rabbet joint typically extends 1/2 inch deep and wide, creating a tight joint that strengthens the closure point. This feature increases the durability of the shutter during heavy winds when closed and latched.

Aegis Shutters uses Benjamin Moore's highest quality exterior paint to add beauty and longevity that withstands the most extreme elements.

In fire prone areas, Aegis Shutters can paint your shutters with a exterior water based acrylic from Flame Control Coatings that creates a flame resistant barrier for added protection.
